Liquidation price calculator
Enter your position parameters — the calculator shows the estimated liquidation price, the distance to it and the maintenance margin.
The calculator performs an arithmetic estimate based on the values you enter and is not investment advice. Exact contract parameters are set by each exchange — check its specification.
How it is calculated
The formula is the standard estimate for isolated margin on linear USDT contracts: a position is liquidated when the loss eats the margin down to the maintenance margin level. The higher the leverage, the closer the liquidation price sits to the entry: about a 9.5% buffer at 10x and under 2% at 50x.
The actual liquidation price on an exchange almost always differs slightly from the estimate: exchanges apply tiered maintenance margin (it grows with position size), account for closing fees and accrued funding, and in cross margin the whole free balance backs the position. The calculator is useful for gauging your buffer, not as an exact copy of a specific exchange engine.
FAQ
What is a liquidation price?
The price at which the position margin no longer covers the maintenance margin requirement and the exchange force-closes the position. It sits below the entry price for a long and above it for a short.
Why does the actual liquidation price differ from the estimate?
Exchanges use tiered maintenance margin, include fees and accrued funding, and the insurance fund and margin mode (isolated or cross) shift the threshold further. The calculator formula is the standard isolated-margin estimate.
What determines the distance to the liquidation price?
Leverage and margin size: the lower the leverage and the more margin behind the position, the further the liquidation price is from the entry. The maintenance margin rate of the specific contract also affects the threshold.
